Are you planning to start recording your gaming session? Do you plan on streaming it on Twitch or YouTube? Finding a good game recorder can be hard at times, especially one of quality. The Elgato might be exactly what you are looking for. Elgato is perfect for semi pro and pro gamers who are want to get serious with capturing their gameplay sessions.
The Eglato is a well-rounded recording device, it comes with the ability for you to record and stream at the same time. You can add icons and logos to your video which will show up during the stream and also in your recording. You can even record yourself playing by using a camera (doesn’t come with the Elgato) and add it to your game session so people can see you in person playing your games. A great feature is that you do not need to unplug the Elgato to play games when you don’t want to capture.
Setting it up
The Elgato is very easy to setup. All you have to do is connect it to your TV, Console system and PC or Laptop. The software will Auto install and then you can start recording! The software will do all the work for you, with the software cycling through resolution options until it finds the proper signal. You can of coarse manual set up the options yourself if it is having issues.
The software makes it easy for you to adjust the game volume and your speech audio when needed. The preferences section is straight forward and easy to understand, you simply just click on the gear icon and all the setting that you can change are out in the open. You can easily customize your hotkeys for Screenshots, start/Stop recording, save flash recording and start/stop live commentary.
Some other settings at your disposal is choosing what tracks should be exported together – for example: whether you want your webcam and overlays to be a separate file from the game footage or exported together as one. Another example would be choosing if you want your live commentary to be exported separately from your game footage – which would make it easier when editing, in case you need to cut some of your commentary out.
The Elgato makes sharing easy, you can easily share your footage right to YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and other apps right from the software itself. You can add the game title, description and tags to your video and upload it from the Elgato. You however cannot add a custom thumbnail from the Elgato – which is the downfall from using this feature.
The Elgato video editor is the worst part about the product. The only thing you can really do with it is trim out parts of the video you captured, which is great if all you need is some small editing. So, you will need to purchase a video editing software for more advanced editing. You can click Here to check out Wondershare Filmora – which is a one time purchase video editing software with free updates for life.
The capture software is clear and easy to use. It comes with basic options that you can adjust as needed. The capability of recording and streaming with ease at the same time while having overlays on the screen is perfect. The Elgato is perfect for beginners and pros. The only area it truly lacks is the video editor.
