— Nintendo of America (@NintendoAmerica) February 8, 2018
The wait is over! Nintendo has finally announced on twitter and on their website that they will be launching the My Nintendo service for the Nintendo Switch in early March. This service originally launched back in 2016 and was available for the 3DS and Wii U, it is a loyalty program that replaced Club Nintendo. Nintendo has yet to announce what will be up for grabs when My Nintendo becomes available for the Nintendo Switch in early March, they did mention select digital games and DLC in their Twitter post, so The Legend OF Zelda breath Of The Wild DLC might be up for grabs for those who did not purchase it already.
For those who do not know, you can redeem gold points every time you purchase select games for the Nintendo Switch, these points will be stored on your My Nintendo account, where you can then redeem them for rewards, which allows you to get discounts on select games, in some circumstances you can get the game for free using gold points, Nintendo even offers DLC content for gold points, Mario Kart 8 DLC packs for the Wii U are currently 60 gold points each. Which isn’t horrible. There are also other types of points available upon completing certain achievements listed on your My Nintendo account, such as Platinum points, which can be redeemed for 3DS themed backgrounds, PC/Smart device Wallpapers and even discounts on select games.
All points that you earn do have expiry dates on them, so be sure to use them before you lose them, you can check the expire dates of your points at any time on your My Nintendo account by click on your points in the top right, then click on point expiration, you have 12 months to redeem gold points and 6 months to redeem platinum points, so be sure to use them before they expire, points do not expire all at once, unless you claimed them all at the same time.
